Auguste Rodin: sculptures, their photo and description

The great master of the Modernist style era – the brightest and most talented sculptor of this art movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work became a model for many artists, and the ability to convey the emotion of a live body, its plasticity and complex lines, became a model for subsequent generations of artists.

Rodin was able to catch the fleeting, subtle, characteristically for which is in constant motion man. The dynamism, energy and emotion works often differed from the usual static academism that have caused viewer confusion, misunderstanding and, very rarely, admiration. Link to the Rodin to the image of the intimate moments of life also was viewed by contemporaries in arms. Only after a dozen years, the sculptor was recognized as a genius.

Not everyone knows that a huge part of his life Rodin devoted to one masterpiece, the “Gates of hell”, which was ordered for the future Museum of decorative arts. Essentially it was a sculptural portal for decorating the entrance to the Museum. Despite the fact that the author did not meet the stipulated term (5 years), the Museum was never created, but Rodin continued to work, fascinated by the depth and uniqueness of the work. Numerous models created by the wizard, as the sketches for the main work, became independent sculptures included in the Golden Fund of world art. Among them: “the Thinker”, “Adam and eve”, “Kiss”, “Fleeting love” and many others. The sculptor was inspired by the work of Dante, Michelangelo, Baudelaire. His passion was so strong that when I finally found a buyer for this piece, the sculptor flatly refused to sell it. As a result, in bronze “Gates of hell” was cast only after the author’s death.

A special place in the work of Rodin is the sculpture group “the burghers of Calais”. Created by order of the municipal authorities of Calais, the sculpture was supposed to symbolize the courage of the citizens, made the decision to give his life for the salvation of his native city. Medieval history is so shocked sculptor that he strongly refused all of the orders while working on it.

According to the author, the sculpture had to stand on the levels of earth, so that the audience felt their belonging to a great feat. Alas, the customers have decided differently. Later, copies of sculptures were installed in Paris and London.

The work affects the emotional and incredibly touching picture of the sufferings of the people, in fear awaiting their fate. So far, this sculptural group, along with such masterpieces as “laoco├Ân and his sons” is one of the most dramatic sculptured.

An extraordinary love and zest for life filled with the sculpture “Eternal spring”. Deliberately blurring the lines to create remarkable degree of haze enveloping the work. The texture of the marble gives the story a special tenderness, fragility, trepidation.

Special perceived one of the earliest works of the master “Bronze age”. Rodin very revolutionary for its time treats Nude male nature. His character is very lyrical, the body proportions are far from academic canons, gestures, emotional, face frozen in complete bliss.
