Overview of the painting :

Forest in the other – Alexey Kondratievich Savrasov. Oil on canvas. 109 x 80 cm

The painting “Forest in the Other” was written in the 1890s. It was a difficult time in the life of the artist. He suffered from alcoholism. The plight forced him to work for a penny, despite his truly great talent. It seemed that everyone had forgotten about Savrasov: even during his lifetime he was listed as dead in the Kondakov directory. Naturally, gloomy motives are noticeable in the works of that time.

Despite everything, the author’s talent remained as powerful as it was in its heyday. Using the example of this creation, one can clearly see that this is true.

There are no dark colors in the picture that should be expected, knowing under what conditions it is written. However, compared with earlier works, the sky here is not so open and radiant – now the author doubts divine justice. The sense of futility is expressed in the limited panorama. A man huddles in his small hut on a microscopic section, separated by a fence from nature that gave him life. On this canvas, Savrasov no longer no longer notices harmony so characteristic of his work.

The only thing that remains unchanged in the work of the painter is his love-inspired display of the finest details of nature. The colors of the evening sky are amazingly precisely selected: tender tones, smooth transitions. A wall of pines is visible in the distance. They are slightly blurred: it seems as if they are hesitating in the wind.

In the colors of the sky, changing from the blue to the fiery orange, the life of the author is reflected. He looks back at her, sees at the beginning and middle of her many happy moments, but in the end everything burns with fire.

Recent years have been difficult, but it was they who became the time of the triumph of the talent of the master. In material reality, he did not find happiness, and from this he only plunged deeper into the saving world of painting.
