Grigory Grigoryevich Myasoyedov was born on the 7th (old style 19th) of April 1834 in the village of Pankovo Tula province (now Dmitriyevskiy district, Oryol region) in the family landed gentry. The father tried his best to encourage the boy, before interested in painting. Training G. Myasoedov began in the Orel gymnasium, where he took drawing lessons at I. A. Volkov.
In 1853 a young man moved to St. Petersburg and entered the Academy of fine Arts, where his teachers were T. Neff and A. Markov.
It so happened that the years of schooling of the artist comes at a time of crisis that befell the school, which eventually resolved the “revolt of fourteen”. However, a witness to the riot were not meat eaters, as has already graduated.
In 1861, while still a student, the young artist created his painting “Greetings young”, which was awarded a small gold medal. And the following 1862 for the painting “the Flight of Grigory Otrepiev” he was awarded big gold medal. Vladimir Stasov said of these works as one of the first steps to the development of historical realism in Russian painting. In the future, the historical genre will be present in the artist constantly.
At the end of the Academy of Arts carnivores as a pensioner went abroad. The artist worked in Florence, Rome, Paris, and Spain. His most famous works created during this period are “Francesca da Rimini” and “the Funeral of the Spanish Gypsies.”
In 1869 Myasoyedov returned to Russia. Soon after, the painting “the Spell”, he was awarded the title of academician. In Europe the artist was born the idea of creating the Association of the Wanderers, eventually at the end of 1870 it was the first organized meeting of the members of this community. In November 1871 in St. Petersburg took place the opening of the First traveling art exhibition which was then shown in other cities: Kiev, Moscow, Kharkov. This exhibition presents the work of G. Myasoedova “grandfather of the Russian Navy”, created in 1871 And in the spring of 1872 was held the Second exhibition where you can see the famous painting of “Zemstvo dines”.
Grigory Myasoedov showed great interest in peasant life. And if the picture of “Zemstvo dines” is, for all intents astrocities, others of his works talked about the folk beliefs and rituals (Drought, 1878-1880; “Opahivanie”, 1876), about the joy of farm labour (“Mowers”). Stories the historical genre was embodied in the films “the Reading position 19.02.1861 G.” (1873) and “self-Immolation” (1884).

The last years of his life Myasoedov held at Poltava in the great Pavlenky estate with a Park, pond and garden. Here he organized a school of drawing and created the scenery for the local theatre.
