In 1508, Kranakh was sent on a diplomatic mission to the Netherlands to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. After this journey, he again turned to painting, began working in various genres, painted altars of Saxon churches, painted paintings on biblical themes, and created mythological compositions and genre scenes. The presented work refers to the mentioned period of the master’s work. The multi-figure work depicts a grand hunting scene, the participants of which are both men and women. Heroes are dressed in luxurious outfits, their poses are slightly theatrical, they feel a passion for hunting and a thirst for rich prey.
