Overview of the painting :
The lady in blue is Victor Elpidiforovich Borisov-Musatov. The paper on the canvas. Watercolor, Pastel. 81 x 62 cm
The romantic soul of Viktor Elpidiforovich Borisov-Musatov, his desire to capture the speed of time and dreams of a beautiful past, his native nature with its sad and old estates – all this helped him create his own unique, recognizable style.
The artist’s favorite image and his favorite blue-green range of colors are united in this picture into a single whole and before us the enchanting and captivating appearance of the Beautiful Lady.
Evening. The pink sun is hiding behind the tall trees of the park. A young woman froze on the track in an old dress made of heavy dark turquoise silk with narrow stripes of silver embroidery. Wide sleeves decorated with exquisite finest lace open the graceful hands with long fingers. A gem with a gem flickers on a slender neck. Such a familiar “musatov” girl.
Dark brown hair is divided into a straight cut and laid in tight curls. An elegant gentle profile is a tall clean forehead, a thin nose with a barely noticeable humpkin, closed lips. Under the rays of the sunset, pale pink porcelain skin glows slightly, dark blue glare sparkles on the hair. Her eyes are closed, thoughts are somewhere far away. Calm and detached facial expression. For a moment, everything froze around and only the quiet twitter of birds violates the silence.
And around the openwork pattern of foliage, playing in twilight light with shades of sapphire and ultramarine colors flowing into each other. Deep dark blue shadows emphasize the gentle-silac, pearl-pink halide chestnut leaves.
The refined cold palette of blue, green and pink-silac flowers – the colors of romantics and dreamers, creates an elevated, slightly mysterious image, full of charm, warmth and harmony. The play of light and shadows, soft and smooth lines fill the picture with the melody of ancient romance, giving rise to a feeling of light sadness.
