On one of the hills of nice, in an old Palace of the SEVENTEENTH century is the Museum of the great Creator – artist and sculptor Henri Emile Benoit Matisse. In this, his beloved city, he held, periodically coming, about forty years, and buried there after his death at the little monastery cemetery Simeiz.
This Museum can be called a Museum of his biography, because the exposition is presented not only paintings, but also his favorite things. So, stay in beautiful rooms, gives the feeling that happened to come to the greatest artist. The wizard in the exhibition are arranged so that, comparing their style, you can explore all the development and change of his creative periods.
The exposition presents works made in different genres and techniques. Among them are paintings and sculptures, drawings and ceramics, stained glass Windows and collages. Start watching – it’s a huge collage “Flowers and fruits” – one of the latest creations of the artist. An interesting arrangement of the exhibits, when in one room you can see works presented different types of art: canvases, sculptures, collages and drawings, combined in one plot, and when finished the canvas is placed alongside the preparatory sketches.
One of the halls of the second floor is entirely devoted to the work of Matisse to design the Chapel of the Rosary in Vence – the last masterpiece of the master. Collected here are the reconstructed samples of the stained glass Windows of the Chapel, vestments, made by the artist’s sketches, drawings on ceramic tiles depicting the virgin with baby Jesus, St. Dominic and the way of the cross.
The Museum exhibition includes, in addition to paintings, still 236 drawings, and 70 sculptural works of Matisse. This illustrates the whole career, which starts the first still life 21 – year-old artist – “still life with book”, and ending cut from blue paper figures, called “blue Nude” is his latest work. Among the similar works of the master: “bather in the reeds”, created in 1952.
Matisse was a great and indefatigable experimenter all his life sought new forms of creative expression.
