Description of the picture :

Our Lady in Glory – Gertgen. About 1490-1495
Ducked by the hard folds of a dark purple-red cloak, Maria sat down over a crescent hanging in the sky – a symbol of its purity. She tramples on the devil – a black dragon, adjacent to the crescent. Around in the multi-colored radiance you can see the lungs, then melting in a dazzling halo, then small angels disappearing in the darkness. Some of them hold the tools of the future suffering of Christ: the cross, nails, the crown of thorns, others play various musical instruments. There is harp, and lute, Viola and Chebalo, pipes and horns, bells and a drum. A funny, very mobile baby in Maria’s arms also joins this concert, enthusiastically shaking two rattle rattles in the bell guide. From the picture, as it were, ringing, gentle and almost-built children’s music pours. The charm of naivety is combined here with the sophisticated skill of the artist, with bold experiments in the transmission of lighting.
