Overview of the painting :

The letter from the front is Alexander Ivanovich Laktionov. Oil on canvas. 155 x 225 cm

The canvas “Letter from the Front” brought the artist great fame. Written by still fresh memories of the years of war, it found a hot response in the hearts of Soviet people.

The picture is a genre scene with a well-found “life” production of figures. There is no unnatural positioning and unnecessary pathetics, such a scene on the sun-filled porch could be seen in every house where the long-awaited front letter came. In each family, during these joyful moments, daily activities were immediately postponed and reading of the message was heard, which was entrusted to the eldest son in this work. For the picture, the artist was posed by his relatives; striving to convey all the smallest details as accurately and reliably as possible, Laktionov acts as a true “pain writer”.
