Overview of the painting :
Botanic – Perov. 1874. Oil on canvas. 65.5×79
A man passionate about science is a hero of Russian culture of the second half of the 19th century. Before us is a herbarium collector, a middle-aged man. Clothing gives us a representative of the “middle” estate – an ordinary black hat, a bright jacket, a somewhat artistic looking bow. Having discovered an interesting plant, the hero focuses only on it, he does not notice anything around. His faithful companion, the hunting dog, on the contrary, was smelling something. Perhaps this is the presence of the artist himself, or maybe a bird in tall grass. Another second and the brave guard of his master will desperately rush for prey.
Surprisingly carefully, the author writes out each stalk and field flower in the meadow. Multi-paint and colored meadow, as the third hero of the picture, acting not only as the background, but as an independent part of the work.
The summer sky, entangled in light clouds, completes the composition, transmitting summer heat, solar Negu and a light breeze. The nearby weather emphasizes the proximity of the village and the church. But here, on the field, a riot of natural colors, smells, sounds begins.
