Overview of the painting :
Portrait B. E. Novosiltseva – Fedor Stepanovich Rokotov. 1780s. Oil on canvas. 70.5 x 59 cm
The portrait of the beauty is enclosed in the correct oval, which makes it possible to confidently attribute it to the 80s of the 18th century, when the master preferred to enclose his works in just such a form.
The picture depicts Novosiltseva V. E. – The daughter of a statuette adviser, an exquisite and sophisticated pupil of the Smolny Institute of Noble Girls. It is captured against a dark background, so her softly lit face just glows with youth and beauty. Cool light emphasizes the ease of silk and lace on the girl’s air clothes, the grace of a blue satin bow and delicate skin with a barely noticeable blush.
The artist with amazing skill conveys various textures – a sharp glossy gloss of organza and silk, a soft velvetity of hair laid in a magnificent powder hairstyle, the uterity of young skin, a lively gloss of eyes. A feature of the image is the workshop of the transmission of the personality of the girl. This is reflected in the features of her face, eyes, general terms, manner of holding with her straight back underlined, but at the same time in a rather relaxed position.
The noble color scheme and virtuoso technique of performance make this portrait a real masterpiece of painting at all times.
