A ceremonial portrait is not the artist’s favorite genre. In this work, Kustodiev is interested not so much in the status of work as in the model itself. No one doubts that we have an oriental beauty (nose shape, bright eyebrows, black eyes).
The cold blue color of the dress balances the eastern brightness of the model. The soft pink details of the outfit are in perfect harmony with the common tone. The pearl necklace of a lady is consonant with iridescent silk. Portraits against the background are a detail that emphasizes the parody and solemnity of the moment.
