Portrait C. AND. Mamontova – Mikhail Vrubel. 1897. Oil on canvas. 187 x 142.5 cm
The portrait of the “Russian Medici” remained unfinished. The artist diligently forms the image of a rich industrialist and a brilliantly educated person. From the half darkness of the office, a powerful, confident person looks at the viewer. His pose gives out some awkwardness, which the hero is trying to hide with all his might.
Details that create the interior “work” on the image of a philanthropist and patron of the arts. The author manages to create an atmosphere of the artistic office of a talented industrialist, excellent taste and a difficult nature. All together is a wonderful example of a ceremonial portrait, which is written with extraordinary respect and a poet. The author sincerely admires his model, tries by all means to emphasize the originality of the individual and the creative warehouse of the mind.
