Sculpture art Nouveau

Modern – modern, popular, fashion – a style that appeared in art of the late 19th century, at a time when the art world was hungry for innovation, and the artists, architects and sculptors tried to reinvent antique, Gothic, Baroque, combining them and trying these combinations to find something new.

The distinctive features of sculpture of the modern era – a return to “natural” lines, the fluidity and dynamism of the forms, internal energy. Among the sculptors of art Nouveau is dominated by two French masters: Auguste Rodin and Aristide Maillol.

Roden left to posterity dozens of masterpieces, known to almost everyone. The most famous, just a textbook of his work – the Thinker. Originally, the Thinker was the dominant one of the most difficult works of the master “Gates of hell”. The triumph of reason, a great ability to think celebrates the sculptor of this work. Freedom and choice – these two God’s gift to make human life difficult, confusing, but beautiful at the same time.

Rodin sculptures awaken imagination in his works attracts the desire of the author to capture life itself, movable, changeable, emotionally rich. His lyrical sculpture the First kiss, Eternal spring, Romeo and Juliet, the poet and the Muse – filled with love of life, harmony and positive energy. Master the mighty force of love, its beauty and immortality.


Maillol took up sculpture when he was already well known and even famous master of painting. New occupation took him entirely. Experimenting with a naked female nature, he by all means possible tried to create images of natural beauty, have stressed the natural harmony of the female body, sensuality and emotion. His work – Pomona, Night, River, Three nymphs adorn the best museums of the world, and all his work is considered to be one of the masterpieces of European plastic art.


Interesting vision and interpretation of man characteristic of the work of the Czech modernist františek bílek. The master was able to fill his works of poetry, outwardly maintaining full realism and authenticity of the image. Naum Aronson – the name today is not too well known. However, the work of the masters who long worked with Rodin, adorn many museums and galleries around the world. His sculptural portraits of Komissarzhevskaya, Beethoven, Tolstoy, Pasteur – brilliant examples of modernism in sculpture. All the wizard, deep and dramatic. Each one is a revelation. Naum Aronson was the only one of the artists who created the sculptural portrait of Grigory Rasputin, which is now kept in a Museum in Israel.
