Overview of the painting :
Senokos – Arkady Alexandrovich Plastov. Oil on canvas. 193 x 232 cm
The summer of 1945, the war ended recently, the country rejoiced, returning to a peaceful life. This feeling of joy and faith in a bright future conveys A. AND. Plastics in their canvases. A picture filled with sunlight attracts the eye. Its plot is straightforward – there is haymaking, but due to the variety of shining colors and shades, a festive mood is created.
Wonderful summer morning. In the foreground is a magnificent blooming meadow. An incredible amount of colors is used by the artist. With juicy smears he writes saffron flowers of a beast-fight, gently yellow inflorescence of a donut, blue blue blue blue blue, lilac bells.
Among the high juicy grass, fluffy pink peels of the peppermint and small white-pink flowers of the bitterness, collected in dense blocks, quietly sway from the wind. Field daisies whiten in emerald greenery. The orange wings of butterflies are cast in gold. Beetles crawl along the emerald stems of grass. The riot of color! You can hear the buzzing of a furry bumblebee picking nectar, the dragonfly of grass, and the quiet whistle of braids that cut off thick grass.
In the center of the picture we see four mowers walking in a meadow one after another. The first is a tanned daughter teenager dressed in dark brown pants. It can be seen that this work is familiar to him, not in vain he goes ahead, setting the pace and width of the cork. Strong hands confidently and deftly hold the braid. The face has blushed, sweat-moisted skin glistens in the sun.
A young thin woman dressed in a light motley dress mows after him. A white scarf covers her head.
The third in the row is an elderly bearded man in a spacious turquoise blue shirt and dark pants. Curly brown hair is poured with copper in the sun, a dark-skinned face has been destroyed. From under rolled sleeves, still strong hands with swollen veins are visible.
The last one is a gray grandfather in a pale green shirt. He is a little tired, but he tries to keep up with the rest of the mowers.
Cats walk easily and rhythmically, leaving smooth rows of freshly cut grass. People’s views are concentrated, they will admire the surrounding beauty only after work. The artist knew the rural work well, knew how to mow, so the images of people are so reliable and real.
To the right of the beauties is a small birch grove. Sun bunnies are fun sparkling on slender white trunks, bright green birch leaves. The painter uses many shades of green color – from very pale, almost silver, to juicy dark grassy. A small breeze sways hanging branches.
Behind the grove is a coniferous forest, which seems completely dark against the background of a blooming meadow. Several gentle green young Christmas trees stretch to the sky. In the distance, in the background of the picture, the scattered mowed fields with large stacks of harvested hay are visible. The far forest on the horizon is shone with blue-green turquoise shades.
A high blue sky with light clouds adds room and air to the image. So I want to visit this meadow, inhale the smell of freshly cut grass and the bitter aroma of wildflowers.
This is one of the most life-affirming paintings of the master. The painter managed to convey feelings of joy and happiness of a peaceful life, inspiration and optimism. In 1946 A.AND. The Stalin Prize was awarded to the reservoir for her and for the painting “Hatva”.
