Description of the picture :

Spring – Giuseppe Archimboldo.

The artist repeatedly returned to the topic of allegories from the seasons, so there are several variants of images made in the same vein and style. All of them have a pronounced similarity: the character completely consists of many types of flowers, buds and leaves – from clothes, hairstyles and jewelry, to the face itself.

The hair of Spring is flowers neatly selected and laid in a magnificent, but quite recognizable, characteristic of the era of the hairstyle. The royal white lily ends with it – a symbol of purity and integrity.

The face of Spring is composed of the smallest white and gentle pink flowers, and the blush on the cheeks is formed by lush, charming roses. The character’s mouth is bright petals, the nose is a large undisclosed button of a colored lily, the ear is an exotic camellia flaming with a scarlet. Even earrings are depicted with a spectacular inverted fuchsia flower.

Dressed Spring in the fashion of that time. The faded collar is “collected” of small white flowers, and the outfit consists of a variety of leaves, wild strawberry berries and luxurious Iris flowers. A picture is written on a dark, saturated background, so that the flowers seem to glow, and the colors overflow. The image of an elegant flower garland is framed.
