Overview of the painting :

It’s time (Kostsy) – Grigory Grigoryevich Myasoedov. 1887. Oil on canvas. 179×275

The theme of the peasantry became the program in the work of Grigory Grigoryevich Myasoedov (1834-1911) – one of the main artists-re-re-lenders -. With paintings dedicated to the abolition of serfdom and the daily life of the Russian village, the painter drew the attention of his contemporaries to the problems of the common people.

“Affordable time” is perhaps the most spiritual-lifting canvas in the picturesque heritage of Myasoedov. The beauties formed at work seem to sing a solemn anthem of nature, sounding in a golden field with a face, in a high blue sky with white cocks of clouds. The compositional angle chosen by the painter – from below, because of the rusts – emphasizes the monumentality and greatness of the image of the country. The tinky summer afternoon saturates the picture with bright colors and gives rise to an amazing sense of patriotism. The joy of labor and love for one’s land, gratitude for its fruits – this is the true plot of work.
