In the heart of the oldest quarter of Barcelona, in the building of the Royal Palace, is a Museum of sculpture. The basis of his exposition is the collection of the famous sculptor of the Mares donated to the city after the war. During his long life the master has gathered a unique collection of sculptures, which is divided into two parts.
On the ground floor is the sculpture with another Iberian, the pre-Christian period before the end of the 14th century. Among the masterpieces: the sculpted portraits of emperors, sarcophagi and crucifixion early middle ages.
Second floor the exhibition continues, presenting sculpture from the 15th to the 19th century. The sculpture of St. Roch, St. Anthony, the work of Mares – lying Christ – the best exhibits.
The third floor of the Museum, the so-called “Cabinet of collector”, represents a separate exposition of household items, knickknacks, toys, tobacco pipes, snuff boxes etc. This part of the institution is called the “sentimental Museum.” 17 rooms collected several thousand fine details, keep the spirit and warmth of the 19th century.
