Nationalmuseum is a very large institution. It includes, besides the Museum, the collections of the Swedish Royal castles, as well as the porcelain Museum. But the richest and most extensive is the collection of the Central institution, located in Stockholm.

On three floors of the Museum you can get acquainted with masterpieces of world and Swedish art since the late middle Ages, ending with our time. In the collection of painting and sculpture of the Museum one hundred and fifty thousand works. Among the authors of the paintings of Perugino, Cranach the Elder, El Greco, Poussin, Hals, Watteau, Goya, Corot, Manet, Degas. The entire world of art of many eras on the walls of the Museum attracts large number of tourists from all over the world. The richness of the collection of Museum can compete with the London gallery, the Prado, the Louvre.


There are several works, which the national Museum has become known worldwide. Undoubtedly, this is a surviving fragment of the great paintings of Rembrandt “Conspiracy of Julius Civilis”. The plot of the film tells about the ancient history of Batalov, the ancestors of modern Dutch. One of the leaders, taking advantage of the heady fervor of their countrymen, urges them to revolt against the hated Romans. Inscrutable are the ways of the paintings of this great artist. But this makes tourists to strive for in the Museum to see, albeit fragmented, another masterpiece by Rembrandt.


Among the Swedish artists of undoubted interest will cause the collection of paintings by the great portraitist Anders Zorn. his work is filled with unusual cheerfulness, a subtle knowledge of human nature and… something that makes you look at the faces in his paintings again and again.

Glass exhibits many very different ceramics, works of precious metals is far not the full list this part of the collection.

Currently the Museum is closed for renovation. Open to visitors it will be no earlier than spring 2017. The best exhibits are periodically exhibited in the galleries of the Swedish capital, as well as in the premises of the Royal Swedish Academy of fine arts.
