The oldest public library in continental Europe appeared in the early 17th century. Founded it one of the enlightened princes of the Church. The main task of this institution was the struggle with the heresy of the reformation. It is known that the first is not to chain the books chained to the racks, allowing readers to be free, trusting them. Gradually, besides the library, there is and its Pinacoteca, and then the Academy.

Today, not only tourists but also residents attracted to this cultural center where you can spend the whole day, continuously contemplating the greatest examples of Italian art of the 14-17th centuries.

Library

The main treasures of this library – ancient manuscripts and unique books. Only one of the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci there are more than a thousand! Among the masterpieces: the illustrated Iliad (published in the 5th century), priceless handwritten medieval books and manuscripts. In addition, still there are several reading rooms.

Pinakothek

Two dozen spacious rooms set aside for an art gallery. Leonardo, Caravaggio, Bruegel, Botticelli is not a complete list of authors, whose works you can see here. Special exhibits can be called a copy of “the last supper” da Vinci made before the Austrian horse were placed in the refectory of the monastery, which is decorated with an original fresco. In the collection of the Pinakothek there is a sketch by Raphael to his famous “Academy”.

In addition to paintings, the gallery presents the sculptures of Italian masters.

Academy

It’s not just a name, in fact, in the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the library operates two education institutions – the art Academy and the Institute for the study of foreign languages.

Perhaps the most attractive in this place that the tourists here. At least they don’t have to Wade through back to at least the corner of my eye to see the masterpiece. The entrance ticket is 8 Euro, which is also not wasteful. The ticket price includes audio guide, including in Russian.
