Near the Invalides, in the heart of Paris, surrounded by a splendid Park, is the Biron mansion. There is a Museum of the sculptor, which most of his creative life devoted to the main masterpiece – the Gates of hell. Working on this amazing piece of work by order of the Paris city authorities, the master has created a set of sculptural sketches, fragments, sketches, samples. Now each of the works unequivocally as a masterpiece of world art. We are talking about Auguste Rodin.
The Museum consists of three independent parts, which wonderfully complement and continue each other.
The first part of the Park. Filigree trimmed trees, the perfect track. But the most important sculptures of the great master, harmoniously situated on the grounds of the Park. Here you can see the famous “Thinker” tragic “citizens of Calais” inspired “Beethoven”, the “Gates of hell” finally.
The second part is the Museum itself is in the mansion. Here, in addition to marble sculptures by Rodin, presents a picturesque collection of sculpture, which includes works by Monet and van Gogh. There are halls where the collected works companion Rodin – Camille Claudel. For many will be the revelation that the master dabbled in painting and photography. Only the Museum’s collection of more than six thousand sculptures of the French genius, about eight thousand photographs, seven thousand other works of art.
The third part of the Museum is the former chapel. In this room is the collection of ancient artifacts, belonging once to the master. In addition, there are exhibitions of contemporary art.
The Museum has a huge library, which collected all the literature dedicated to the work of Rodin.
The whole complex is open in summer from ten in the morning until six in the evening. Monday’s off day. On Wednesdays exhibit, you can enjoy up to nine hours.
When visiting the Museum complex, you can buy a ticket for 1 Euro which gives you the right to walk in the Park. Full ticket giving admission to all the treasures, will cost 9 euros. Discounts for young people from 18 to 25 years old – 7 Euro (if you come from a country that is not in the EU). Young people from Europe will receive a free ticket. Great offer for families: two adults with children should buy a ticket for 10 euros. In that case, if you want to visit temporary exhibitions in the chapel or one of the many events of the Museum, the ticket will cost 6 euros.
