The view of the Palace Embankment from the Peter and Paul Fortress is Fedor Yakovlevich Alekseev. Oil on canvas. 70×108
The largest representative of landscape painting of the early 19th century F. I AM. Alekseeva was called “Russian Canaletto” in honor of the Italian artist, master of the urban landscape of the XVII century.
“The view of the Palace Embankment from the Peter and Paul Fortress” is one of the most famous works of the painter. The panorama of the Palace Embankment of St. Petersburg is majestic and monumental. Buildings rise above the granite of the Neva, reflected in the mirror surface of the water, above the boat sliding along the river – a high sky.
In the foreground on the left is the wall of the Peter and Paul Fortress, on the foreground on the right, on the banks of the Neva, – the Marble Palace with a service building. To his left is the house of the princes of Baryatinsky and the palace of Rear Admiral X. de Ribas, then the Summer Garden, recognizable by its forged fence.
For the work “View of the Palace Embankment from the Peter and Paul Fortress” Alekseev received the title of academician.
