Overview of the painting :
Village holiday – Boris Mikhailovich Kustodiev. 1910. Cardboard, tempera. 34.2×101
Unlike other Kustodiev holidays, this one does not look rant and noisy. Most likely, we have a village wedding or engagement.
A wide panorama includes several groups. The hosts of the holiday gathered near the cart. Apparently, the conversation is going on business, organizational issues are being discussed. Nearby a group of boys engaged in the game.
In the center, undoubtedly, honored guests of the holiday on the bench. Among the guests of honor, the figure of the parish priest is easily guessed.
The largest group is located on the right – youth. Girls in light dresses, pretty dressed guys. The accordion began to play, the dance began.
The whole composition is flooded with a bright autumn sun. Gold and copper reflect the light of the leaves on the trees. The atmosphere of the picture is a happy expectation of the holiday. The green sky continues the fields and meadows resting in the horizon. Wooden excesses, gently blue, create a festive, carefree background. Fun will begin very soon.
