Worship of the Baby Christ – Filippino Lippi. The middle of the 1480s. Copper, tempera. Diameter 53
Filippino Lippi (1460-1505), the son of artist Fippo Lippi, is probably the most famous of the students of Sandro Botticelli, who adopted the features of the sophisticated, poetic style of the master.
Since the second half of the XIV century, Italian artists began to interpret the scene of the Nativity of Christ as a scene of worship. Lippi continues this tradition, presenting the newborn and Madonna in the beautiful Garden of Eden, where winged angels with golden hair guard their peace. The background is a fabulous landscape with mountains and castles in a light haze. Everything here is permeated with a sense of fait accompli.
